STATE FINALISTS

Huge Congratulations to our State Finalists for outstanding performances this weekend in Virginia Beach!

Nicolas Dewolfe placed 2ndin the Pole Vaultwith a 13'0" vault. His previous best was 11'6" and he rose to the occasion. He almost won the state title with both athletes clearing 13'0" and both missing at 13'6". The score â€‹went to misses and Nic missed 2 times at 13'0" and the other competitor only once. Congratulations Nicolas!

Haley Heironimus placed 10thin the 3200m with her 3rdfastest time ever in 11:33. The race was a more tactical race with a group of girls that slowed the pace and then kicked in the final few laps. Haley competed with guts and gave it her all.

Spencer Torok had a NH at 11'0" but almost had a big PR for the day! He competed very courageously. Look to see him back at states again.

Yesterday was a long day for many of us. I left home at 4:15 am and returned at 8:30pm. Some of us competed in the cold and some competed in the hot air of the Liberty Complex. A big thank you to parents who drove to Liberty and coach Atkinson for taking care of the food order! Thank you to coach Gillis and Lolagne for leading the team in the cold! We had a few PR's and we will try and recognize those at practice next week. I do want to recognize Haley Heironimus for breaking the overall 3200m school record yesterday. She has come close a few times and finally crashed through it. Congratulations Haley!

We have districts in two weeks. We need everyone at practice 100% of the time going forward. 6 practices until districts! Districts is Wednesday January 26th at Falls Church HS (3200m, LJ, TJ, Pole Vault, and pre-lims of the 55m dash/55mh) Day 2 of Districts is scheduled for Friday January 28that Thomas Jefferson Community Center. It will be an invitational at Edison with Field Events at the meet. Entries will be somewhat limited so it's possible not everyone will be able to be entered. If you cannot be at the January 22nd meet please email Coach Smith now. It is important for everyone be available for this meet as we need to get sharp for districts.

Winter Sports Concessions Help

Winter Sports Concessions Help

Winter Sports games and meets are happening and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please sign up now to work at the Indoor Concession stand. It’s easy and training will be provided. There’s also a live feed of the gym being broadcast in the concession stand so you won’t miss out on the action! Here is the link to sign up. These opportunities help make money for ALL FC Athletics so even if your child isn’t involved in these activities, we’d still appreciate your assistance. In addition, please plan ahead for the Joe Cascio Basketball tournament--an event that FCHS hosts over the winter break (Dec. 27-29). We need a LOT of coverage in @2 hour segments working in the concession stand. THIS SHOULD BE MORE THAN JUST BASKETBALL FAMILIES WHO WORK THIS EVENT! The sign-up now also includes this tournament so please sign up to help if you can!

Indoor Track & Field has been assigned to the following days: January 21 and February 8 (Both are Basketball games with 3 levels of play: Freshman, JV and Varsity) In addition, if indoor track can support any of the times for the Joe Cascio tournament on December 28, we'd appreciate it.

Team Picture Day

Lastly, we are hoping you can help us with Team Picture day. Please advise if you have a TEAM MANAGER or TEAM CAPTAIN that can assist us. When the pictures are taken, we are hoping to have a manager or your team captain assist us with getting the names of the athletes, in order, so that we can accurately name them in the Winter Sports Program. Please advise if someone will be able to assist on this date and please provide his/her name to Karen Laughlin at karlaughlin@gmail.com

Best,

Bonnie Gagermeier

Leaf Raking Fundraiser

Dear Winter Sports Parents,

The Falls Church High School Athletics Boosters will be out again for our annual November Leaf Raking Fundraiser! Leaf raking for this year will be done on two Saturdays in November, the 13th and 20th. This is a Winter Sports fundraiser. On Nov. 13, the Winter Sports participating are Girls & Boys Basketball. On Nov. 20, the Winter Sports participating are Wrestling, Gymnastics, Indoor Track, Swim & Dive, and Dance.   Please note that while our team may be participating on a specific date, you/your family may participate on an alternative date if necessary.

We need Parents to drive student-athletes who can't drive to the leaf raking locations. In addition, a few supplies are needed. Please use the sign-up to be a driver or to donate supplies: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A48AFAF2EA0FD0-2021

Please sign-up if you are able to participate in this fundraiser on November 20 from 9 to 11 am OR November 20 from 11 am to 1 pm. (Note: Student-athletes and drivers should meet at 8:45 AM for the 9 AM start time and at 10:45 AM for the 11 AM start time).

Track Team athlete sign-up linkhttps://forms.gle/9DpqvLWRMDmPYhT17

Please meet at Door 8 at FC. Student-athletes should also bring their own gloves and rakes, if possible. If you have a car and can drive, please indicate if you want to drive and how many you can fit in your car. It is, however, preferable that parents drive student-athletes to this event. We can’t do this event without you! This is also a team-building day. We are hoping to use the funding for this to purchase an indoor scoring table that can be used at events in the gym as well as to purchase needed supplies for winter sports.

Questions about the event can be addressed to: fchsleafraking@gmail.com.

Coach Atkinson (katkinson@fcps.edu) and Coach Day (cday@fcps.edu) will be the Track Coach Contact for this event.

Thank you for your support, parents! Go Jags!

Uniforms, Spikes, Transport, and Spectators

  1. New athletes who need a uniform should purchase a singlet and green shorts before Dec. 21st. The purchase link is on the team website. The team store will close on that date. This is the only opportunity this season to order a uniform. Orders take a few weeks so we will supply an older version of the uniform for new athletes until orders come in.  It is important to have matching uniforms as it is required at championship meets. Athletes can purchase a hoodie, sweats, etc. but these extras are not required.
  2. Shoes and spikes. It is important to have a good pair of running shoes. Spikes for running and jumping events are highly recommended. We have some to lend out, but it is highly recommended athletes purchase a pair of spikes if they can't find a pair to fit in the lending box. Road Runner Sports offers a discount and a fundraiser for Falls Church runners. See the team website for details.
  3. Transportation to meets. Busing to meets is severely limited this year to meets due to COVID guidelines. We expect most athletes to arrive at meets through their own transport. If an athlete needs to use the school bus please email me for the date you need the bus and we will arrange transport. The schedule is on the team website.
  4. Spectators. At this time no spectators are allowed at meets.  A limited number of spectators will be allowed starting in January. If a parent would like to volunteer for our first home meet on December 28th at noon please email Coach Smith. We need only need a handful of volunteers since the timing is covered and field events will be competed at practice. All volunteers will be screened and expected to wear a mask.
