The Falls Church Boys' Indoor Track Team had one of its most successful competitions on Saturday, February 20th at George Mason University for the Indoor Track Northern Region Championships scoring big with throwers Patrick Williams and Matt Renn.  Both were state qualifier hopefuls leading into Regionals with region qualifying marks set earlier in the season.  Going into the competition Matt had a 4th place seeding and Patrick had a 6th place seeding.  Falls Church throw coach, Brian Baird, was confident they would be very successful Saturday after coming back from the long winter snow break throwing extremely well in practice.  Coach Baird's confidence ended up being well founded.  Patrick caused a major upset by edging out the #1 seed, Garrett Knudson from Hayfield, throwing a personal best throw of 49 feet 8 1/2 inches.  Matt also threw a person best after having been practicing to perfect his rotational throwing technique with his throw of 49 feet 3 inches to place 3rd overall just behind Knudson.  They both beat out top seeds from Stuart and Fairfax as well. With Patrick's Regional Championship throw and Matt's 3rd place, they helped the team to score 16 points to place 13th out 25 teams represented in the Northern Region.

Other top performances from the boys' track team came from David Ririani in the 500m dash running a personal best of 1:13.70.  David was also 3rd leg of the boys' 4x400m relay team consisting of Lincoln Scott, Emerson Barros, and Samy Yousuf.  This relay team successfully beat Hayfield's team to run a personal best time of 3 minutes and 44 seconds. Nabeel Janjua also competed in the pole vault and high jump.

Patrick and Matt now advance to the VHSL State Championships to be held on Friday, February 26th at Boo Wiliams Sportsplex in Hampton, VA.  Their throws have also qualified them for National competition.
