Riley Louden breaks National District record in the Pole Vault; Girls' 4 x 800 places 3rd at Districts!

Junior Riley Louden does it again!  Riley Louden smashed her District recored in the Pole Vault yesterday at the first day of the National District Championships at Edison High School.  Riley broke the record last year with a jump of 8 feet.  Yesterday she broke that record with a jump of 9 feet 6 inches, a record she hopes will be unbreakable for some time. Riley is the only Falls Church athlete to hold a National District record.  Riley also placed 5th overall in the 200m dash semifinals.  She will run the finals tonight.

Other notable performaces came from Riley's younger sister, Charlotte Louden, who placed 3rd in the pole vault with a personal best of 6 feet 6 inches.  Jenny Moore placed 2nd with a jump of 7 feet 6 inches.

Riley and Charlotte also ran on the 4x800m relay team who also consisted of team captains, Kim Bruyette and Suh Yang.  These ladies ran an outstanding race to place 3rd overall.

Kim Bruyette also placed 5th in the High Jump.

The top 3 relays in each event will advance to the Northern Region Championships along with the top 6 in each individual event which will be held May 21st and 22nd at Lake Braddock.  The 2nd Day of the National Championships will be held today at Edison starting at 4:45 which will consist of all running event finals, boys' shot put, girls' discus, boys' triple jump, and girls' long jump.
