The Marshall Statesmen hosted the Jags in the second game of conference play. The Statemen had their ace, Riley Cummins (committed to UVa), on the mound. While the Jags threw their ace, David Mathis.

The Statesmen scored only 1 run in the first two innings. The Jags were able to put the ball into play against Cummins. A tough third inning gave the Statesmen 4 runs and they went to a 5-0 lead.

Down 5-0, Gary Bornholdt started the top of the 4th with a 10 pitch at bat, with the final pitch sailing over the centerfield fence for the Jags first homerun of the year! Damian walked and went to second on a passed ball. Kevin Moore grounded to the pitcher, but Damian took third on the throw to first, with excellent base-running. Going down 0-2, David worked a walk. Paul Stewart crushed a double to center to score Damian. With Paul on second and David on third, Nick hit a grounder to third that David was able to score on as the throw from the thirdbaseman was low. Nick was caught stealing and Jack struck out to end the inning.

Kevin Moore came in to pitch the final three innings and gave up only two runs. The Jags scored another run in the 6th when David doubled and later scored on Paul's hard hit ball to the secondbaseman (E4).

Although the Jags came out without the victory, the team played hard, fought back, and is looking forward to the next game against Thomas Jefferson.
