Freshmen Girls Handle Mt. Vernon
Kimberly Roxbrough had 8 points and 7 blocks to lead the Falls Church Freshmen Girls Basketball team (3-2) to a 30-5 win over Mt. Vernon on Tuesday. The Jaguars piled up 20 First Half points to lead 20-0 at the break. Claire Joseph added 8 points, 6 of which came during the Jaguars’ big 2nd Quarter run which built a lead that would never be challenged.
Defense played a big part in the victory as well, creating turnover after turnover which plagued Mt. Vernon throughout the game. Ava Willis had 6 points, all off steals. Katie Ngo had 4 points, while Hannah Worley and Anja Miller each had 2 points. Callie McGurk and Brianna Dixon led the way with 2 points each for the Majors, while Tianna Howell added 1 point.
The win was a big confidence boost for Falls Church, who now run the gauntlet of the schedule with games at Briar Woods, Wakefield, and a home-and-home with Thomas Edison.
“With the way we’ve played in the last couple of games, and how much we’ve improved, I believe that we can compete with anyone on our schedule,” said Head Coach Sharon Frank. “We’re looking forward to improving, one game at a time.”
The Jaguars are next in action Friday January 16th at 4:00 vs Thomas Edison, followed by JV at 5:45 and Varsity at 7:30.
