Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Thomas Jefferson

Game Date
Jan 16, 2018
Score
JAGUARS: 67
THOMAS JEFFERSON: 32

At home tonight, Falls Church's Offense of the Century exploded upon the Lady Colonials of Thomas Jefferson HS to give the Lady Jaguars a three-game Conference winning streak and move them into a third place tie in the standings (with Wakefield). The Lady Jaguars are proving to be Super Cats, particularly on offense, for despite two "clunker" games of under 30 points this season, they have more than overcome those rare setbacks and now are averaging 52-points per game.

Tonight's affair was only close at the end of the first quarter. The Jags broke a 12-12 deadlock and sprinted away on a 55-20 run the rest of the way out, averaging two baskets and a 3-pointer every three minutes over the final three quarters (this game was unique for only two total free throw attempts by Falls Church). The Three Machine bombarded the Colonial defense with eight long-distance baskets to extend their Conference lead with 58 three-pointers tallied by five players over fourteen games. Junior Sierra Kennard, the highest scorer on the court tonight, had 3 of them as did sophomore Gabby Clay, who celebrated her first game in double digits.

Not to be overlooked was the Jaguar defense which effectively shut down TJ's offense, particularly throughout the final three quarters. Only two other times so far this season had Falls Church proved to be stingier on defense, and only one other time were they more prolific on offense; the result producing the largest margin of victory tonight compared to any other game this season.

Coach Pritchett and five players on her team (seniors Rasha Benhamida, Leah Shaw, Mia Pendleton, and Nyeisha Thompson; as well as junior Sierra Kennard) have now celebrated at least 10 season victories twice in the past 3 seasons, the only times this single-season threshold has been reached by any Falls Church girls basketball team in more than 20 years. The Lady Jags can take sole possession of third place in the Conference with a victory later this week. It's a very tall order: the last time Falls Church defeated Wakefield, all of Coach Pritchett's players were in elementary school.

By the way, the JV and freshman teams also coasted to big wins tonight. At this point of the season, this is the only known time in school history that all three girls basketball teams have winning records.

Scoring Summary: Sierra Kennard, 19 points; Rasha Benhamida, 14 points; Amari Faust, 12 points; Gabriele Clay, 11 points; Mia Pendleton, 4 points; Leah Shaw, 3 points; Kimberly Roxborough, 2 points; Torrie Maddox, 2 points.
