Score

STUART-VARSITY DOUBLEHEADER: 43

The Lady Jags registered their fifth Conference 13 victory of the season tonight on their home court against the Lady Raiders of Stuart HS, extending their winning streak to 17 games against this opponent -- spanning nearly eight years. Coach Pritchett's team delighted the home crowd with a strong offensive performance with one player in particular earning the title "Stuart's Nightmare" with her fourth 20-point game against the Lady Raiders in the past thirteen months.

Falls Church opened strong with a revved up Three Machine. Rasha Benhamida and Sierra Kennard each struck paydirt with "3s" and others built on that early foundation of points to create a 9-1 lead. Stuart refused to fold and closed the gap to two points before Amari Faust fed Nyeisha Thompson with a buzzer beater to end the quarter with Falls Church up 11-7. The Lady Jags built up their lead by two more points in the second frame with three two-point baskets by Kennard and Mia Pendleton, and two "3s" by Leah Shaw, whose second long-range field goal came seconds after an assist, a block and a steal -- all by her.

Falls Church built on the lead throughout the third quarter with seven free throws and three baskets to carry a 37-26 lead into the fourth quarter. Although a vigorous opponent throughout, Stuart gradually lost steam throughout the second half, unable to match a scoring surge by the Lady Jags throughout the fourth quarter. Six consecutive free throws by three different Lady Jags opened the quarter with seven more baskets  by four more players to keep the lead near 20 points. Sierra Kennard scored early and then often throughout the quarter with 12 points in those final eight minutes, including a "3" to close out her game.

The buzzer closed the contest with Falls Church winning by 17 points and their first 60-point output of the season. Several Lady Jags had noteworthy games. Leah Shaw, Mia Pendleton, and Nyeisha Thompson proved to be individual multi threats in point production, blocks, steals, and assists. Sierra Kennard stood out as a solid offensive weapon with the second-highest point production in her Varsity career -- a career that has yet to reach the halfway point. She was Stuart's Nightmare last year and now has come back to haunt them again.

With two more games to close out the regular season, the Lady Jags have locked in on fourth place as they seek to roll into the playoffs on a winning streak.

Scoring Summary:  Sierra Kennard, 26 points; Leah Shaw, 12 points; Nyeisha Thompson, 7 points; Mia Pendleton, 6 points; Rasha Benhamida, 5 points; Amari Faust, 2 points; Kim Roxborough, 2 points.
