CONFERENCE 13 @ WAKEFIELD: 58

Falls Church fell to Wakefield tonight on the Lady Warriors home court. The loss sends Wakefield to the Conference championship game against Edison, with a crucial consolation game remaining for Falls Church to host against Stuart HS. The winner of this game plays on in the regional tournament; the season ends Friday for the loser of this game.

The Lady Warriors rushed out to a rapid 13-4 lead in the first quarter, taking advantage of Lady Jaguar missed shots, turnovers, and enjoying high percentage shooting. Coach Pritchett called a very timely timeout to gather her team and re-focus them. It worked. For the rest of the quarter, the Jags ended the quarter on a 6-0 run and kept the game close. All five starters scored in that first frame.

The Three Machine opened the second quarter for the Falls Church. Sierra Kennard followed her first quarter baskets with two second period "3s" and Amber Ecelbarger swished one of her own. Leann Loch went 4-4 at the penalty stripe to end the half with the Lady Jags down 23-25.

A combination of foul trouble, turnovers and missed shot opportunities plagued Falls Church in the third quarter, liniting the Lady Jags to a few free throws and two more baskets by Kennard. But Wakefield opened a commanding lead with 15 third-quarter points to take a ten point lead into the fourth. Although Falls Church scored 16 points from five players, they were unable to close the gap as Wakefield went 10-12 at the foul line and added four other baskets to win this game by 12 points.

The Lady Jags fought hard in this contest but could not overcome a night that just wasn't going their way. Sierra Kennard was the Falls Church star tonight. She notched her third game of 20 or more points, including a string of six consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. She also had five rebounds to help her team stay in the contest. Kennard is the runaway scoring queen of all the rookies in Conference 13 and the third leading scorer of all the conference players.

Scoring Summary: Sierra Kennard, 20 points; Leann Loch, 9 points; Amber Ecelbarger, 6 points; Leah Shaw, 5 points; Rasha Benhamida, 5 points; Mia Pendleton, 1 point.
