Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Jefferson-Varsity Doubleheader

Game Date
Jan 30, 2015
Score
JAGUARS: 44
JEFFERSON-VARSITY DOUBLEHEADER: 26

The Lady Jaguars devoured the Lady Colonials to sweep TJ for the season. More importantly, Falls Church earned its first win in the decisive seven-game Conference 13 schedule to determine seeding for the playoff tournament. Most importantly, Coach Pritchett and her team celebrated their sixth official victory of the season -- the most victories by any Lady Jaguars varsity basketball team in 8 years.

Two Jefferson free throws opened the scoring. The Jaguars roared back and then never looked back. They landed five baskets in the first quarter, three more in the second quarter and interwove four free throws to total 21 first-half points. Falls Church's defense stifled Colonial shooters, limiting them to two more foul shots and only two baskets for the entire half. With a secure lead, Falls Church consistently poured in double-digit points for each of the final two frames while holding TJ to another two baskets for the third quarter and controlling them enough to wipe away any vestige of a comeback in the fourth quarter.

The forward tandem of senior Natalie Samaha and junior Leann Loch proved unstoppable tonight. Together they banked in and swished 12 baskets, Samaha also benefiting from four superlative assists from Loch. The front court duo also snared 10 rebounds to turn away Jefferson offensives and convert them to Jaguar drives. Junior Amber Ecelbarger repeated an opening pattern seen three other times this season -- scoring her first points on a "3" pointer followed by a steal and layup. She joined her post-playing teammates in double digits (her eleventh of the season). The two freshman guards, Leah Shaw and Mia Pendleton added rebounds, free throws and field goals as well as strong zone defense to thwart opponent shot attempts.

The Lady Jags celebrated their second victory in 48 hours. They have very little time to bask in it as they head to Mount Vernon HS merely half a day from the final buzzer for a rare Saturday noon-time contest.

Scoring Summary:  Natalie Samaha, 14  points; Leann Loch and Amber Ecelbarger, 12 points each; Leah Shaw, 4 points; Mia Pendleton, 2 points.
