The Lady Jags crumbled tonight under the weight of the Edison juggernaut. The Lady Eagles scored consistently and often, putting up no fewer than 18 points in any quarter and sinking on average a basket per minute throughout this game. They soared to a 17-0 lead over Falls Church and maintained that margin for the remainder of the first quarter. Amber Ecelbarger scored the first seven points for the Lady Jags, swishing all 3 of her free throws and driving for two other baskets. Fellow junior Leann Loch and freshman Leah Shaw completed the first-half scoring for the Jags, a team with single-digit first half points on offense for two straight games.
The Jags bright defensive moments were very few and far between. They were severely out-rebounded by a more aggressive and hungrier Edison squad, and became easy prey at times to the pass-stealing talents of the Eagles who routinely converted those turnovers into easy fast break points. Falls Church continued to fight more on offense throughout the second half as Natalie Samaha lit the scoreboard in the third quarter. Leann Loch matched her senior forward partner with two more baskets as the Jaguar frontcourt put up all of their third-quarter points.
The most positive performances this night for the green side was the combined offense output of Ecelbarger and Loch. The point guard and post tandem combined for ten more points in the final frame, each assisting the other with impressive leading passes -- a staple of the Jaguar offense since their freshman season together two years ago. On a team not traditionally viewed as a high-octane offense, these two have still been able to amass 1,000 combined varsity career points two months into their junior seasons.
Scoring Summary: Amber Ecelbarger, 13 points; Leann Loch, 10 points; Natalie Samaha, 4 points; Leah Shaw, 2 points.
