Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Wakefield HS

Game Date
Jan 20, 2015
Score
JAGUARS: 30
WAKEFIELD HS: 54

The Lady Warriors whipped the Jaguars on Wakefield's home court -- an arena where Falls Church has played its worst basketball for the past three seasons. Tonight mysteriously followed the same pattern where the Jaguar offense completely disappeared for nearly a half.

It started out promising for the green-clad visitors when senior forward Natalie Samaha scored the first basket of the game. Wakefield tied the score a minute later and near the halfway point of the quarter, the score remained 2-2. Then the Warriors went on the warpath, hitting two out of every three shots they attempted from all points on the court, while Falls Church was reduced to two free throws and at least a dozen turnovers for those awful twelve minutes. The halftime score was an ugly 33-4 -- the worst half for the Lady Jags in two years.

Falls Church came alive in the third quarter, spurred on by juniors Amber Ecelbarger and Leann Loch who scored several baskets and free throws. Freshman Leah Shaw swished in a shot after a steal; she has scored every game she has played in a varsity uniform. Loch and Ecelbarger exchanged assists and each converted them to points throughout the fourth quarter, exceeding the team's offensive production for the entire first three quarters (Note: it was "garbage time" for more than the last five minutes of the game as Wakefield had put in its bench players). The final buzzer showed that the Jags had slightly closed the first-half gap, but the game was already lost at the end of that decisive half.

Scoring Summary: Amber Ecelbarger, 13 points; Leann Loch 13 points; Natalie Samaha, 2 points; Leah Shaw, 2 points.
