The Lady Eagles of Edison High School routed the Lady Jags by nearly 40 points to drop the home team to a 4-9 record. Offensively and defensively, Falls Church was unable to compete with the talent and depth of the last year's Conference 13 and 5A regional champs, a team ranked within the Top 10 of the Washington Metro Area this season.

The Jags fell back quickly, down 0-8 before the second minute of the game elapsed. After several turnovers from bad passes and buttery fingers, The Jags found a scoring rhythm beginning with 2 baskets and two free throws by Senior forward Natalie Samaha. Fellow post player Leann Loch landed a shot in traffic and Amber Ecelbarger twisted and turned a drive layup to put the Jags into first quarter double digits for the fourth straight game. Falls Church ended the quarter down by seven.

It only got worse from there. Edison opened up with a 50-19 run for the remaining 24 minutes. Coach Bailey was pressed into service to move from assistant to head coach tonight due to an illness to Coach Pritchett. He judiciously filtered in players and set up the Lady Jags to avoid the mid-court trapping of Edison. The passes and ability to handle them were both off tonight as turnovers quickly turned into points by the opposition. The only consistent and effective scoring weapon tonight was Natalie Samaha, who completed a career high game -- her fourth straight game of 10 or more points.

The loss was the worst of the season and only the second time in the past 11 games in which the Lady Jags yielded 40+ points in a contest. They will meet up with Edison again in exactly one week.
