Falls Church dropped its second game of the Joe Cascio tournament and its seventh game of the season with a 6-point loss to the Lady Wolverines of West Potomac. Although this game was much closer than the first time the two teams met three weeks ago, the outcome meant another winnable game slipped away.

The first half revealed a very close contest between the two teams as West Potomac led by two points at intermission. The passing-scoring tandem of Amber Ecelbarger to Leann Loch revved up halfway into the first quarter with the junior point guard feeding the junior center 5 passes that Loch converted into 3 baskets and two trips to the penalty stripe. The tandem remained in high gear in the third quarter with 2 more baskets and another free throw by Loch. By the end of the quarter, the teams were tied at 23.

The Jaguars and Wolverines continued to trade off the lead with each other for five minutes into the final quarter. Loch hit two more free throws and notched her second double-double of the season by grabbing 10 defensive and offensive rebounds. Ecelbarger also hit double digits for the fifth time this season with all of her points coming from lay-ups and free throws resulting from hard inside drives. The point guard added 5 assists, all in the first three quarters. Loch added a key assist to Natalie Samaha who converted it for a left -hand layup to tie the score at 28 with three minutes remaining in the game, but West Potomac began to pull away with a free throw and two buckets. Two Falls Church shots in the last 90 seconds danced along the rim but would not fall through. Then it turned to deliberate fouls and free throws and like the first game of the tournament, the opponent made enough of them to take the game out of reach.

** With 24 points in these first two games, Leann Loch was named as the Lady Jag representative to the all-tournament team.
